India is the 6th most polluted country globally (2025 World Air Quality Report)
Persistent coughs, higher bills, kids stuck at home — air pollution is already part of your daily life
What's happening?
- IQAir’s 2025 World Air Quality Report is out — India is the 6th most polluted country in the world. This is not new, it’s been in the top 10 every single year since IQAir started tracking.
- Loni in Ghaziabad, UP topped the list as the most polluted city on the planet, with PM2.5 levels at 112.5 — nearly 20 times the WHO safe limit. Four more Indian cities made the global top 10: Byrnihat (Meghalaya), Delhi, Ghaziabad (UP), and Ula/Birnagar (West Bengal). Delhi has now been the world’s most polluted capital for 8 years running.
- The silver lining? India’s average PM2.5 has been slowly dropping — from 54.4 in 2023 to 48.9 in 2025. But that’s still nearly 10x what the WHO considers safe.
Why should you care?
- This is not a distant issue. The severe levels of air pollution are already affecting your everyday life.
- Your health: persistent coughs, fatigue, headaches, weaker lungs — even if you feel “fine.”
- Your money: more spending on healthcare, purifiers, electricity.
- Your family: kids and elderly face higher risks from the same air.
- Your lifestyle: fewer walks, worse winters, more time indoors.
